The Grand IPL 2012 Friends Package

IPL 2012

History will remember the fourth of April as the date Martin Luther King was assassinated (1968) and the date Microsoft was founded as a partnership between Bill Gates and Paul Allen (1975).  I, however, have much happier memories of this April day as every year during the nineties, it was the date when my childhood crush celebrated her birthday. Oh, what joy! Not that she doesn’t celebrate it now, I am sure she does. Just that over the years we lost touch and no longer does the sky turn a brighter shade of pink or the nightingales sing with gutso, when I think of her.

April four is also the date when this year’s biggest sporting circus – the IPL – comes alive. This year’s edition will have the nine franchisees battle against each other over 54 days at 12 venues.

There is no doubt that the format is packed with entertainment. As sixes fly all over the ground, and Bollywood numbers are played loudly, you can see that the crowd is caught in the frenzy of the entertainment.  Watching the IPL  is like going for a Bollywood movie -  It’s 3 hours long, it rides on the superstars, occasionally a lesser artist plays a stellar cameo and carves a name for himself, there are people dancing in the aisles and an item number (cheerleaders) becomes necessary to carry the movie.  Not cricket, but then art can only pip masala for that long.

So the other day, we were sitting and wondering how to make it easier for people to watch the IPL in the stadiums. As most matches start at 8 in the evening and end only at 1130 pm, finding public transport becomes an issue at this late hour. Of course, most people have their cars what with India Shining and all that, but then I find it a terrible nuisance to have to take out my car from the crowded parking lot with 10,000 others trying to do the same, at the end of the match. Also, a number of families would not deem it safe to let their children out till midnight without assurance. Keeping all this in mind, we decided to introduce the Grand IPL ‘Friends’ package. ‘Friends’ because we want to promote the concept of people traveling together, in groups to the matches.

As part of the package, we are offering transport – a pick up and drop back right to the doorstep, as well as tickets for the matches.  We believe it is a great solution to the above mentioned issues as a chauffeured car will arrive pronto at your house, from where you and your friends can whiz off to the stadium, enjoy the game with your popcorns and vuvuzelas and then get dropped back safe and sound.

Let us know if you like the idea by dropping in a comment.  Also, do scream Sachin’s name if you go for a Mumbai match. There will soon be a day when he retires, and we don’t see the world’s best batsman in a stadium again. Cheers!
