United Airlines is going to introduce, perhaps one of the most important travel app in the industry. This app will allow the customers checking in for international flights to scan their passports via their iOS and Android devices. They are going to be the first airline to add that option. Previously, passengers could manage only some parts of their international flights through this option. However, to receive the boarding pass before the passport was verified at the airport wasn’t possible.

United’s vice president of merchandising and ecommerce, Scott Wilson says, “We are focused on building the most useful travel app in the industry for our customers,”. He also said that the new passport scanning feature saves valuable time and provides customers with more options to control their travel experience.

The app which is still in a test phase will allow check in before 24 hours of departure. The passengers flying international can check-in with the scanned copy of their passport. It is much similar to mobile banking deposit, according to United Airlines.

On 6th August the airlines began offering the app to some of the passengers on their international flights for testing purpose. With the feedback collected during the testing phase, the airline is determined to further improve the product and launch additional customer-friendly features utilizing this technology.
