The temperatures in Periyar range from cool to moderate. The months of December and January can become as cool as 15 ºC, while the summer months of April and May can see temperatures going up to 31ºC. The southwest monsoons shower over Periyar from June to September, while the northeast monsoon has the forest in its throes from October to December. Pack some cotton t-shirts and jeans for the summers, and warm clothing for the winters.
The months of September to March are known to be the best for animal sightings. The reserve is open to visitors from 0600 - 1800 hours, all through the year.
