Tashkent Tour & Travel Guide - Things to do in Tashkent

Independence Square or Mustaqilik

The political center of the Republic of Uzbekistan, this is where the city’s government buildings are located. It is also the largest square in the Soviet Union. The Senate is located here as well, and is an imposing white edifice, worth paying a visit to. Spend some time in this bustling square, where all the action takes place. Parades or celebrations- this is the place where it all happens.

Seattle Peace Park

Also known as Babur Park, this park is a throwback to the Cold War era. Schoolchildren designed tiles carrying messages to end the nuclear war, and this park houses many of these tiles, though chipped or broken

Tashkent Land

Uzbekistan’s largest amusement park, it is not a patch on Disneyworlds and the like, but is an entertaining way to spend a few hours. If you’re with kids and need to keep them occupied, this place has some enjoyable rides and an authentic Soviet feel.

Aqua Park

Just north of Tashkent Land is the city’s very own water park. A great way to spend the day with the kids in summer, the park has swimming pools, a wave pool, water chutes and high water slides. Relax at the restaurants and bar or make a splash and soak in the sun, the Aqua Park promises a fun day for all.

Alisher Navoi Theater and Opera

Walk down leafy Chestnut avenues lines with flower beds to reach the Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theatre. The theatre has been entertaining audiences from 1947 and can seat up to 1500. Try and catch a show here if possible, and enjoy the magnificent acoustics and fantastic lighting

Khazrat Imam Square

This is the burial-place of Kaffal ash-Shashi, the first Imam of Tashkent and a propagator of Islam. A complex of architectural monuments sprang up here around the burial spot, over the course of several centuries. Within the complex is the Juma Mosque, and also a library which houses the sacred Osman’s Quran.
