Kaziranga National Park

One of India’s largest and best-known national parks, especially famous for the rare one-horned rhino, Kaziranga, situated on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, is a major attraction in this part of the country. A large area of 430 square kms, the park is open grassland interspersed with streams and lakes, dense forests and marshes. Safaris in this park are most exciting as you may encounter rhinos in their natural habitat of the tall elephant grass. Herds of wild elephant are also common here and the baby elephants particularly, make for a heart-warming sight. The Indian Bison, Swamp Deer, Sambar, Hog Deer, Sloth Bear, Tiger Leopard, Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat, Hog Badger, Capped Langur, Hoolock Gibbon can all be found here. Pelicans and Hornbills are also a common sight and bird lovers can get a good look at them. Elephant safaris and open jeep safaris are the options available here, and both are equally exciting. Sitting high atop an elephant, you are likely to get closer to the wild animals and a good view of them from a height. Experience the thrill of seeing the magnificent Rhino up close as they bathe, eat and amble along doing their daily business. Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Manas National Park

Bordering Bhutan, this tiger reserve in Assam is one of the most magnificent national parks of India. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it covers an area of 520 square kms and is covered with dense forest. The major species include Bengal Florican, Giant Hornbills, Jungle Fowls, Bulbuls, Brahminy Ducks, The Manas River flows close to the park, attracting many animals to this source of water.
