A small picturesque Sikkimese town in the district of Geyzing, Pelling promises to take every traveller’s breath away with its beautiful alpine mountain ranges and waterfalls that tumble down with amazing alacrity. West Bengal’s most famous hill station, Darjeeling has been attracting tourists and travellers for several score years even before Indian Independence. Nestled snugly in the Himalayas, it is most famous for its tea gardens and Darjeeling tea is a household name throughout the expanse of the country. Besides offering panoramic views of never-ending tea gardens and several important Himalayan peaks such as the mighty Kanchenjunga, it is also famous for its pretty monasteries. While in Darjeeling, you must board the toy train, dash to Tiger Hill at dawn to catch the perfect sunrise and take a lot of photographs! If you are terribly lucky, you might even spot the elusive snow leopard.
A small hamlet in the mountains, Lachung has been recognized as Sikkim’s ‘most picturesque village’ and its lush forests, snow capped peaks and mountain streams, all stand testament to that fact. The Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary is particularly breathtaking, a unique destination by virtue of several species of rhododendron trees, hot sulphur springs and glacial streams that flow through it.
