Amsterdam Tour & Travel Guide - Tourist Places near Amsterdam

Amerongen:

In the downtown area of Netherlands, there lies the scenic town called Amerongen. The town is located amidst Utrechtse Heuvelrug, a recently established national park. Here you will find sceneries ranging from hilly terrains to flat water meadows. The Medieval castle of Amerongen is not in its original shape now, and hence what we see today are remains of the same. A brand new castle was later created, the interiors of which were refashioned to match the 19th Century architecture. While you pay a visit to the castle, spend good time looking at the paintings in the dining room, the tapestry room and the upper gallery. The castle also has a wide collection of French furniture, books, portraits, Chinese porcelain, etc.

Haarlem

Located at a distance of 20 km west of Amsterdam is the beautiful town called Haarlem. Popular for a wide range of tourist attractions including, museums, canals, innovative coffee shops, a tiny Red Light District, etc., Haarlem has a recognizable history of its own. One thing that will instantly grab your attention in Haarlem is its peaceful streets. The absence of a tram system makes the streets less noisy. A short trip to Haarlem will immediately trigger a true lazy vacation mood. Do spend some time in the Windmill Adriaen and the Big Market Square where you will also see a grand church and the Amsterdam Gate. Also identified for its tulip fields, this quaint Amsterdam neighbourhood hosts flower festivals and other colourful events on a regular basis.

Edam

This peaceful countryside is a wonderful gateway from Amsterdam. Hardly a 30- min bus drive away from the city, the town of Edam offers a serene escape from the bustling city life. You can visit cheese factory, St. Nicholas church, or take a stroll around the wodden clogs. The best way to get around the town, if you are a solo traveller or are with a bunch of friends, would be to hire a bike. Those travelling with families may also hop on a local bus.
