Spiti Overview

The raw beauty of the Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh is a timeless spectacle, where the majestic Himalayas create a snowy abode for an untouched desert mountain. The Spiti river flows by serenely adds beauty to the landscape which comprises of bare rocks, deep gorges and steep slopes. Spiti itself means 'the middle land', a name it derives from its strategic location between India and Tibet. The rugged geographical features of Spiti make it an ideal venue for trekking. Rare animal species like the Snow Leopard, Ibex, Himalayan Blue Sheep, Musk Deer, Himalayan Brown Bear are found in this beautiful valley. One can find a lot of ancient Buddhist monastries here which are contain lovely murals and paintings and some precious manuscripts. The Tabo monastery here is called the Ajanta of the Himalayas because of its lovely  mural paintings and sculptures. Kye is the largest monastery in the valley and is also famous for its Stuco images and rare manuscripts. When here, one can also visit neighbouring places like Leh and Manali.
