Sikkim Tourism & Travel Guide - Know Before you Go!

Sikkim Overview

A sense of placid calm prevails over all of Sikkim, an almost enlightened calm that is very Buddhist in character. This state in the north east of India, with the high, snow-cloaked Himalayan peaks in the north and the brilliant green terrace farms lower down is a perfect balm for the city-scoured. The air is crisp, scrubbed clean by the frequent showers and the trees are all green, just as trees should be. With as many as 75 monasteries, you never know when you'll find one as you come around the next bend on the winding road.

Local Language

Nepali is spoken by the majority of locals and is also the official language of the state although Hindi is also widely spoken and understood. Bhutia, Lepcha and Dzongkha are the other major languages.
