Rajasthan Tour & Travel Guide - Places to See in Rajasthan

Hawa Mahal

The most popular landmark in Rajasthan, Hawa Mahal is located in Jaipur, the Pink City. This intricately designed pink sandstone structure was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the year 1799. The top of this five-storey structure offers excellent views of Jantar Mantar, City Palace, Sirdeori Bazaar, etc. The small museum inside Hawa Mahal, they say, evokes the royal past.

Ishwari Minar

Standing tall near Tripoal Gate, this ancient landmark Iswari Minar Swarga Sal was built by Raja Jai Singh’s son. Apart from some great views of Old City from the top of the minar, it also features Chandpol Bazaar situated right next to the entrance.

Jantar Mantar

Located at a Stone’s throw from the City Palace, Jantar Mantar is a ‘giant’s toy box’ for some, and ‘a mammoth’ for some others. This ancient structure was an observatory deck erected by Raja Jai Singh in the year 1728. The best way to explore this architectural delight is to go for a guided tour of 30 min to 1hr wherein the guide will explain the significance of each and every instrument inside the laboratory.

Ranthambore National Park

Served as ‘Maharaja’s hunting ground’ for a really long period, Ranthambore Park took almost 15 years to finally become a wildlife Sanctuary. Zoom into the untouched wildlife where you will find crocodile curling inside the lakes, tigers snarling in their natural habitats, wild animals co-existing with the tame ones, and birds creating music with their twittering. Ranthambore is a home to Leopard, Chinkara (Indian gazelle), nilgai, jackal, sambhar, chital (spotted deer), porcupines, and many more.

Mehrangarh

No trip to Jodhpur can be complete without paying a visit to this historical monument.

Nathmal Ki Haveli

Renowned as the house of Jaisalmer’s Prime Minister during the 19th Century, the ‘haveli’ has intricately designed carvings and paintings that have used a good amount of gold. The entrance features postcards, pictures, and paintings from the Prime Minister’s time. Visitors are welcomed by royal Sandstone elephants.

Salim Singh ki Haveli

It is a private haveli built 300 years ago. The haveli still exhibits the grandeur of the then Prime Minister Salim Singh. Arched balconies, finely designed architecture, the entrance, gates and the staircase surely deserve a mention.

Patwa ki haveli

Another architectural marvel in Jaisalmer is Patwa ki haveli. The pretty stonework and mesmerizing structure of the Haveli evokes rich 19th Century art and culture. Jaisalmer is a place for art lovers.

Jaisalmer Fort

The lively fort encircles approximately 25% of the Old City’s population within its strong walls. The crowded streets packed with shops, the huge palace and the various temples sprinkled all around make Jaisalmer all the more lively and vibrant.

When my lil girl asked me what Heritage Village is, I told her it was something like Chowki Dhani of Jaipur because we had been there. Just that the crafts and the installations would be from another culture. Not only did Pujita enjoy herself throughly, she picked up so much knowledge about the culture!

Kadambari, Jodhpur is great for a heritage wedding. But yeah Umaid Bhavan would cost a fortune. Hotel Aashiyan in Udaipur can be ur option if your guest list is not too long. You can get any 2-star hotel booked and have a heritage themed wedding instead.

Hey, yes can you arrange for a heritage hotel wedding too? That'd be awesome! The 5-star heritage hotels are soooo expensive. Can you suggest a more budget friendly option?

I recently completed my first trip to India, and the first place I visited was Jaipur. There was so much colour, so much culture! The havelis, the museums, the forts, the markets--oh the markets--my partner and I went crazy shopping. Pray tell me, do you guys also arrange weddings in havelis? Please do.

A visit to the Hawa Mahal is incomplete without a visit to the famous Johri bazaar nearby. You will find anything and everything Rajasthani at the bazaar.
