Mussoorie Tour & Travel Guide - Places to See in Mussoorie

Gun Hill

This is the second highest peak in Mussoorie. It is a 30 minute walk from the Mall, but if you wish to have a bird eye’s vision of the area, a cable car would not be a bad option! There are eateries, some souvenir shops and a few other stalls, but the best thing about Gun hill is the view from the top. Taking in the sight of the Himalayas, Banderpunch, Gangotri, Pithwara, Srikantha can really take your breath away. The history of Gun Hill dates back to the pre-independence period. It is said that a canon was fired from the Gun Hill every afternoon to help people know the time and adjust their watches.

Camel’s Back Road

True to its name, this road is a stretch of 4 km and is a natural layout of rocks shaped like a camel’s hump back. The Camel’s Back road originates from Library point and leads straight to the Kulri Bazaar, and is visible from the Mussoorie Public School. Pony rides are frequqent. The place is also famous for a sunset view of the Himalayas. A perfect spot for morning and evening walks, this patch promises an enriching experience for those who want to witness the magic of sun rays falling on the snow capped mountains.

Kempty Falls

Fifteen kilometers from Mussoorie is the star attraction of Mussoorie - the Kempty Falls. It’s the biggest waterfall here, nestled among a cluster of cliffs from all sides. Water comes cascading down from a height of 4,500 ft, hitting the rocks on its way and getting split into five streams. There are a number of shops, eateries, and also some changing rooms, giving it the look and feel of a marketplace. For those wishing to spend a little more time at the falls, there are arrangements for accommodation in huts in the area around Kempty. The waterfall is closed through winter and can be visited from the months of March through July.

Mussoorie Lake

6 kilometers from Mussoorie, this is a relatively new picnic spot on the Dehradun Mussoorie road. It commands an enchanting view of Doon Valley and nearby villages. Pedal boats are also available here.

Other Attractions

Jharipani Falls, Bhatta Falls, Mossey Falls and Mussorie Lake comprise, indeed, some of the best sought after destinations for nature lovers.

The Mall Road

It is one of the most crowded places of Mussoorie. The structure of the road takes you back to the colonial period of Britishers. There are numerous restaurants, hotels and shops on this road. In Mussoorie, the Mall stretches from Picture Palace at its eastern end to the Public Library (shortened to ‘Library’) at its western end.

Municipal Garden

It’s a picnic spot with a beautiful garden and an artificial mini lake. Boating facilities are available. It can be reached by cycle rickshaw, pony or by car although you can take the shorter 2 km walk through Waverly Convent Road.

Childer's Lodge

It’s the highest peak of Mussoorie. It can be visited on horse back or on foot.

Nag Devta Temple

It’s an ancient temple situated on Cart Mackenjee Road about 6 kms from Mussoorie.
