Amsterdam Tour & Travel Guide - Places to See in Amsterdam

House of Bols

Managed by the Bols distillery, the House of Bols is Dutch ‘gin’ museum. The museum offers a wide range of interesting activities for adults. One of the attractions is the 60 min long, self-guided tour that enables you to take a closer look into the company’s history, indulge into a mystifying sniff test and also offers an exclusively prepared cocktail.

Vondelpark

On a bright sunny day when all you need is some lounging and chilling, Vondelpark is the best place to be at. Choose a corner and read your favourite book, get-together with friends or meet new people, or simply come down to one of the cafes for some snacking and munching. The lively atmosphere and colourful crowd will remind you of New York’s Central Park. Nature lovers may find solace in ponds, gardens, lawns, etc. You may also choose to rent a bike from MacBike at Weteringschans to explore the neighbourhood.

Artis

From alligators to birds, chimps, deers and many more, this oldest Zoo on the European continent follows an alphabetical pattern of rich wildlife. The winding footpaths, ponds, statues and gardens form a delightful layout. The aquarium complex showcasing shark tanks and coral reefs is one of the main attractions for many while others consider the themed habitats to be the highlight of the zoo.

Madame Tussauds Amsterdam

The boundary between the wax and the real gets blurred here at Madame Tussauds. The museum features wax structures of Tiësto, a popular DJ, David Beckham, Princess Maxima and many others. While you are at the museum don’t rush through things, enjoy and explore the wonderful sets and structures in a relaxed manner.

Holand Experience

All the popular attractions of this little land are crammed into this sophisticated entertainment junction. Put on the 3-D glasses and enjoy a light-hearted 30-min long film that talks about tulips, windmills, and dykes. Kids will surely enjoy the 3-D show at Holland Experience.

NDSM-Werf

A free ferry from behind the central station will take you to a different world altogether. With carved wooden stacks, old boats, rusted-trams, etc., NDSM-werf looks more like a set from an ancient movie. This area, also known as Kinetish Noord, is a popular city-sponsored community of art lovers where an old warehouse has been modified into an open space that holds over 100 theatres, studios, and a skateboard hall.

Hortus Botanicus

A repository for tropical plants and seeds imported from the East and West Indies, Hortus Botanicus was established in the year 1638. Palm-oil seeds and plants, pineapple, coffee, cinnamon, etc. were distributed to different parts of the worlds from Hortus Botanicus. Butterfly house is one of the most popular attractions and deserves a stopover.
