Kaziranga Overview

Home of the majestic one horned Great Indian Rhinoceros, Kaziranga is situated in the flood plain of the Brahmaputra River. A World Heritage Site and a world-renowned biodiversity, Kaziranga National Park is spread over an area of 429.93 Sq.Km as well as an additional 429.40 Sq.Km, and straddles the two districts of Nagaon and Golaghat. The park was inaugurated in the last century and housed only a dozen rhinos then, but now now, it has turned into a national park with one of the largest number of Indian Rhinoceros. A mix of tropical moist deciduous jungles and grasslands that are typical to flood plains, this unique forest is also home to other exotic wildlife like the Royal Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephant, Swamp Deer, Hog Deer, Sambar, Wild Boar, Bengal foxes, civet, Chinese pangolins, sloth bear, Leopard and Wild buffalo. It also has a diverse population of resident and migratory birds like hornbills, pelicans, storks, herons, fish eagles and imperial eagles.
