Kausani Overview

Far from the maddening crowd, there is a quiet and picturesque hill station nestled in the Kumaon hills. Surrounded by thick pine forests, the hamlet sits atop the Pinghat peak and proudly overlooks the Kosi and Gomti rivers on its either side. This heaven on earth is called Kasauni. An assortment of colorful flowers on a green background should be enough to gladden anybody’s soul. But add to that some great cloud formations, accompanied by a 300 kilometer wide, panoramic view of the snow capped Himalayas, and you have absolute paradise! You haven’t really seen it all if you have not seen sunrise or sunset over the majestic Himalayas. After a long spell of imprisonment during the quest for freedom struggle, Mahatma Gandhi took spiritual refuge in Kausani and he was so enchanted by the beauty and peaceful atmosphere of the town, that he titled it as the “Switzerland of India”. Today, it serves as a perfect holiday destination for honeymoon couples and families alike.
