New Delhi Tour & Travel Guide - Eating Out in New Delhi

Chandni Chowk

It is almost impossible to resist the temptation of stopping for a snack as you walk through the gullies of Chandni Chowk and the delicious aroma wafts your senses. Almost everything here tastes delicious. But the most famous of these delicacies are, one, the delectable parathas from the Paranthe wali galli, and, two, the most refreshing fruit chaat from Chaatwalla, a shop that is literally centuries old. The Bikaner Sweet Shop is famous for its rasmalai. If it is non veg you dig, Karim’s in Old Delhi is still regarded as the best for biryanis, kababs, and korma. Then there is Shree Balaji Chaat Bhandar, where the Papdi Chaat is most recommended and Bishan Swaroop, for its AlooChaat. Natraj Dahi Bhalla, right outside the Chandni Chowk metro station serves only dahibhalla, and passionately too. The Rabdi Falooda at Giani di haddi near Fatehpuri mosque cannot be missed and neither can the Old and Famous Jalebiwalla before you enter DaribaKalan where you get jalebas (big jalebis), as large as your face and exquisitely messy to eat. Then, there is…the butter chicken. It isn’ just the succulent meat found at Urdu Bazaar, facing Gate No. 1 of the Jama Masjid that’s a meat-eater’s delight, but also the butter chicken at Moti Mahal near Darya Ganj, from where it is said to have originated.

Sarvana Bhavan

If you are craving for South Indian food, Sarvana Bhavan would be our first recommendation. An extremely popular eatery, it is thronged by visitors even during the busiest of office hours! Their meals or thali are your best bet.

Swagath

While this place strictly serves only vegetarian food, Swagath is where you should be headed for if you want to sample some delicious south Indian non veg.

Big Chill Cafe

Khan Market’s Big Chill Café (also at Saket) is one of the most popular cafes in the city. It has excellent food that falls neatly into the continental-multi cuisine category, apart from its array of desserts (clearly, Delhi has a very sweet tooth!).

Route 04

American food along the lines of ribs and steaks can be found at Route 04.
