Mauritius Tourism & Travel Guide - Eating Out in Mauritius

Mauritius Tour & Travel Guide - Eating Out in Mauritius

There are a number of fantastic restaurants in Mauritius, and what comes as a pleasant surprise is that most of them have excellent decor. Dining in Mauritius will be a memorable experience for sure!

La Langouste Grisee

This stylish restaurant at Grand Baie has charming indoor seating and a beautiful garden overlooking a pond. As a winner of the Fourchette d'Or in 2005, 'The Tipsy Lobster' is generally acknowledged as one of the best restaurants on the island. Some of the favorites from its imaginative Franco-Mauritian menu apart from lobster of course, include Dorado fillet, peanut sauce and banana slices.

Le Capitaine

This popular restaurant serves good seafood and fish dishes in a pleasant space that combines style with informality and great seaside views. Fresh lobster is the pick of the menu, while other recommended mains include whole crab cooked in white wine, and lobster ravioli with fresh mushroom and cucumber quenelle. Don' t forget to make reservations.

Fusion

Another fashionable restaurant in Grand Baie, Fusion, lives up to its name by combining the virtues of flash, minimalist, sleek and a little intimidating. You can plan a dinner here, sampling fusion-flavoured Mauritian-Asian cooking.

Luigi's

This one is a classic little trattoria serving pizza and pasta and a range of daily specials, such as seafood gnocchi. To top it all, they also make some of the most delicious deserts in town.

La Flore Mauricienne

This is a great Parisian place for lunch, even for vegetarians. The daily specials are always good value, and there's a big selection of dishes. Inside is a more formal setting, whereas the terrace is a great place to just chill.

Stalls

After all these fashionable restaurants, you might be starved for some street food. Don' worry because Port Louis is a snackers' paradise. The Central Market and bus stations are the places to eat, but you'll find stalls all over town serving samosas and gateaux piments (deep-fried balls of lentils and chilli), sandwiches and curries.
