Corbett Overview

Corbett National Park is one of the greatest National Parks in Asia with over 1300 sq kms of forests, hills and grasslands, fed by a frisky river. Its proximity to Delhi and prolific wildlife makes Corbett one of the must visit destinations in India. A biodiversity that is rich, rare and precious, it is the perfect habitat for the tiger, elephant, hog deer and many other species. Another attraction much to angler's delight is the Ramganga River that flows through the park with fattened Mahseer hidden within its water. The National Park was named after Jim Corbett, who had hunted down a number of tigers here, after they turned man-eaters. Jim Corbett National Park, India is the oldest National Park in India. It is among the nine Tiger Reserves created as part of the Project Tiger, launched in 1973. Project Tiger was a program launched for tiger conservation. With a core area of around 520 sq km, more than 100 species of trees, around 50 mammal species, nearly 600 bird species and more than 20 reptile species, Corbett National Park offers one of the most diverse & rich wildlife experiences possible. Wildlife tours to Corbett National Park, like Corbett Tiger Safari is very popular among the tourists. Many Tiger Safari tours to Corbett are conducted from Delhi which include visit to Corbett National Park, stay at a forest resort and round trip from Delhi. Jeep safari and Elephant Safari in Corbett are also very popular. At Corbett, hotel accommodation is easy to find. Apart from hotels, resorts, forest rest houses and log huts are also available for the visitors. The Park remains open from the middle of November to the middle of June, as the roads within the park are usually washed away at other times of the year. There is something absolutely magical about being in this tiger and elephant country where unexpected sights and sounds present themselves at almost every turn.
