Coorg Tourism & Travel Guide - Know Before you Go!

Coorg Overview

Coorg, or Kodagu as it is now known, is an astonishing land in the heart of the southern Indian peninsula. This un-spoilt “country of a million hills” situated at an elevation of 1140 meters on the slopes of the Western Ghats is India’s coffee bowl. The place is known for its oxygen-rich air and the beautifully pruned hedges that grow along its coffee plantations. Coorg has plenty to offer to those who love the great outdoors. It is a haven for bird-watchers as it is home to around 300 species of birds. This tiny district in the state of Karnataka is the biggest producer of coffee. Dotted with red-tiled bungalows, the town has an old world charm about it.

Local Language

The two major languages spoken are Kannada and Malayalam. However, another ancient language called Kodava is also spoken here, which originated in this area.
