The city itself derives its name from the water surrounding the Golden Temple. That apart, Amritsar is also a history fiend’s gem studded find. Amritsar is in Northern India, in the State of Punjab. It is 217 kilometres northwest of the State capital, Chandigarh and 32 kilometres east of Lahore, Pakistan. This places it in the near vicinity of the north-western border between India and Pakistan.
