Well this post is long overdue. But nonetheless, better late than never.

In Oct’11 we first made a very basic version of the product live. A lot of water has flown under the bridge since.

In Oct this year, we released v1.0 of our online product, and since then we’ve been making small releases every week to polish the the jagged edges. v0.2 took us around 30 days to put together, and at that time we had no in house tech team. It was a quick and dirty job (done in PHP, for those who care) but it gave us a face for the world. It helped us say Hello to you!

v1.0 has been done entirely in house from the ground up. It is the basic foundation on which we’re now building the next generation holiday discovery, research, planning and booking platform (do note the deliberate emphasis on planning!). To come to a level where we could make something live took us around 4 – 5 months (and for those who care again, its done in Java / Spring MVC).

We’re now 6 folks in Dev led by the ever so serious Prashant, and we’re hiring more. And it still takes time. For all my friends who ask me ever so often – ‘ek website banane mein itni der kyo lag rahi hai?’, I’ll try to partly answer it in my next post.

p.s. – If you’re super smart, and don’t want to measure your life by the releases you make or the bugs you fix, do drop a line at careers@weareholidays.com or harkirat@weareholidays.com. We’re looking for some kick ass folks to join us on Front End as well as Core Dev. Just a word of advice for front end engineering folks – excelling at HTML / CSS / JQuery does not mean you’re good. Good is someone who can do JavaScript programming by oneself. Someone who can code their own plugins and don’t always need to search for plug and play options.

p.s. - Don’t miss our Christmas special logo in the screenshot.

p.s. - Yes, I did get *inspired* from Seagram’s 100 Pipers in case the hiring pitch sounds a bit familiar.
