Kerala is often and rightly associated with Ayurvedic treatments and peaceful holidays. That is, after all, how all Kerala tourist places have been packaged and marketed to tourists. The one aspect of Kerala which is neglected or not highlighted enough is the expansive beaches that adorn God’s Own Country.

Breaking away from general & offbeat Kerala tourist places list, here’s a more specific list of top 5 beach resorts in Kerala.

1.  Marari Beach Resort, Marari

Marari is probably the cleanest little village in the Alleppepy district in Kerala. The village is famous for its ecological diversity and the beach is so clean that you will want to swim in it as soon as you see it.

Marari Beach Resort is expansive, has idyllic cottages, excellent food and spa services and the beach in its backyard. Perfect, in every sense.

2.  Vivanta by Taj, Bekal

Bekal is situated in the north-most corner of the southern-most part of Kerala. The area is remote and boasts of the Bekal fort, which is the oldest and most famous in the state. Bekal, in addition to coconut groves, is home to the most untouched and pristine beach in Kerala. Swim in these crystal clear waters and stay at Vivanta by Taj to experience the best of natural beauty and luxury.

3.  The Leela, Kovalam

Of all Kerala tourism places to visit, Kovalam, that is blessed with three beaches – Lighthouse, Samudra and Hawa, is surely one. While Lighthouse is the most popular, Samudra beach is often ignored making it the best beach to head to when you need isolation and calm. Given that a 5-star property like The Leela calls the Samudra beach area its home, you won’t find yourself short of being pampered in addition to getting de-stressed.

4.  Kanan Beach Resort, Kasargod

Kanan Beach Resort is unassuming and herein lies its beauty. The resort has all the amenities that one could need and want. The beach that lines the resort is clean and largely unoccupied, thereby making it the perfect area to carelessly roam around, be one with the water and to enjoy the sunrise/sunset.

 5.  The Gateway Hotel, Varkala

If you wish to live in the lap of luxury, then The Gateway Hotel at Varkala is where you must head. Situated at a distance of 50 km from Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala’s beaches are not too crowded, with clear waters and sand that begs to be walked on. A 2000 year old Vishnu temple is in the vicinity for those feeling spiritual; others can laze on the beach or enjoy the 5 star luxuries of the hotel.

Sometimes I wish I was Shandler – quirky like Sheldon and sarcastic + funny like Chandler. But then, I am me. The girl who needs her life to be a collage of small joys, brain-tickling conversations and as impulsive as it is cautious.
