The ideal ‘No Budget’ Vacation

Let me warn you right here that this is a mythical creation, impossible to achieve in the real world. You can get wherever you want to by either A. Trekking there on foot across sunny meadows and picturesque valleys, the birds singing your favourite song or B. Hitch-hiking there with the handsomest strangers and fatherly old men sans all the modern day dangers of unfamiliar men. You can stay at the local parish and young Hector will roast you a delicious wild boar for dinner. Ok let’s get real…

No Budget Vacation

It’s not always about the money. Well if you want to visit St.Tropez or Marbella, then it mostly is about the money. But hey, some of the best trips are about the company and the conversation. And what about people with no money or little money? They travel too, there’s a way to doing it. In this article, we hope to explore some sustainable and viable means of travelling on a budget.

Picking a Destination

You have to start by picking a realistic destination with respect to your budget. Travel expenses, accommodation, food, transport; basically the cost of living needs to be estimated. You can’t expect to comb the French Riviera on a shoestring budget, backpacking across Spain is a more practical approach. Pick a lesser known destination; they are usually cheaper than the more popular ones.

Research & Planning

The lesser the money, the more amount of research and planning that is requires. You need to delve in-depth to find the most compatible means for everything - travel, stay, food, etc,. Get on forums, talk to fellow travellers, check out the probabilities of camping and trekking. Where there is a will, there is a way, it might just take you some time to find it. So start your research & planning well in advance. Travel forums from Lonely Planet and TripAdvisor are a great place to find valuable tips and you might just bump into some like-minded people.

Booking in Advance

Airline tickets and hotel rooms come cheaper when booked well in advance. Pretty much everything comes at an early bird discount. Look out for offers and deals, a lot of companies offer limited offers and deals. Time is Money; the more time, the lesser the money.

Couchsurf

Become a couchsurfer. Crash on somebody’s couch for free. Couchsurfing offers a lot more benefits than just free accommodation. You can get invaluable local information from a local. The best places to visit, things to do, nightclubs, bargains, hangouts and the like. Be open-minded, talk to people and you’ll get to know a lot more locally that will benefit you on your budget holiday.
