Australia Tour & Travel Guide - Things to do in Australia

Great Barrier Reef Snorkelling

Take a guided snorkelling tour along the exotic Great Barrier Reef.  Experience the myriad aquatic life along Queensland’s coast, as you walk along the ocean floor alongside oysters and corals. Giant clams, reef sharks and turtles glide by and leave you breathless. You could even sign up for a scuba diving lesson.

Beaches

Bondi Beach is a tourist hot-spot located in east Sydney, with surfers and tourists from across the world. Also a cultural centre with cinemas, exhibitions and restaurants. Tamarama beach in Sydney is a short 80m stretch between high cliffs, with huge waves and rocky sands. To swim, head to Clovelly in Sydney to snorkel and sunbathe with the kids.

Coogee Ocean Pools

For a day out with the kids, these man-made ocean pools are safe, fun and free. Take a dip in the rock pool at Giles Bath, or splash about in the idyllic Wylies Bath. The McIvers Bath against the cliffs and Ross Jones Memorial Pool with its concrete turrets are some of the more interesting pools here. Relax on the green spaces around, toss a ball or a frisbee and enjoy your picnic.

Wildlife Parks & Zoos

Australian animal life boasts of kangaroos, koalas, wallabies and many other unique creatures. Sanctuaries and zoos and present all over the country. Head to Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, set in the native bush-land. Watch shy platypuses underwater and preying birds swoop across the sky. At the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, the bushy hillsides and abound with kangaroos and koalas.  The oldest zoo in Australia, the Royal Melbourne Zoo, is set in spacious gardens and houses over 320 species. Watch seals, tigers, lions and more in their natural habitat. The Alma Park Zoo in Brisbane lets you enter koala enclosures, hold snakes and reptiles and touch and feed many animals.

Fraser Island Tour

Make a day trip to Fraser Island, resplendent with lakes, cliffs and sandy beaches. The ‘perched’ lakes McKenzie and Birrabeen are an interesting sight, with water having accumulated over an impermeable layer of dry twigs and leaves. The water in these lakes is rich in minerals and great for the skin and hair. Stroll down the Eli Creek, a fast-moving rush of crystal clear water. For photo-ops, visit the sandy, colourful cliffs called the Pinnacles. Relax on the sandy Orchid beach, or take a walk to the Maheno ship wreck.
