Udaipur Tour & Travel Guide - Places to See in Udaipur

Fateh Sagar Lake

This Lake is considered to be the pride of Udaipur and should be the first place to visit in your itinerary. This artificial lake constructed by Maharana in north of Lake Pichola is an ideal picnic spot. Within the confines of the Lake are three small islands; the largest of which is Nehru Park. The second island is a park with an impressive water-jet fountain. The third island is the address for the Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO). Nicknamed as the second Kashmir, Fateh Sagar Lake enchants everyone with its silver blue waters set against the mesmerizing backdrop of lush green!

Pichola Lake

This is yet another artificial fresh water lake and was created in the year 1362 AD and is named after the nearby Picholi village. It is heaven for romantic souls with two lovely secluded islands, Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir, located within this Lake.

City Palace

On the eastern bank of Lake Pichola; stands the large palace complex whose construction was started by Maharana Udai Singh. It is a spectacular structure constructed in granite and marble. This majestic marvel standing on top of a hill is enclosed by crenulated walls. If you stand atop one of the balconies of the palace, the sight that meets the eye is simply breathtaking with "Jag Niwas" (the Lake Palace Hotel) on one side and the city of Udaipur on the other!

Mor Chowk (Peacock courtyard)

It gets its name from the colourful glass mosaics decorated on its walls. The entrance to the palace is through Hathi Pol which is an excellent shopping place with a vast array of souvenirs to take home!

Monsoon Palace

This palace was designed in a manner so as to collect rain water for consumption all year around; hence the name. Also known as Sajjan Garh Palace, it used to be the summer resort of the Maharaja. Located on the hill top overlooking all the lakes, the palace is a nice place to hang around with friends and family.

Doodh Talai

Besides a rock and fountain garden, Doodh Talai is also the best point to catch the sunset over the Lake Pichola. A ride through the Aerial tramway (rope way) which connects one of the Doodh Talai gardens to Karni Mata temple is simply awesome and highly recommended!

Namrita, if you reach Hathi Pol market and ask anybody for Mor Chowk, they'll guide you. It's right there. Tourists usually miss it in the hustle of the market.

Where is this Mor Chowk? I visited Udaipur but missed this.

Hey Nehru Park at Fateh Sagar Lake is a sight to behold! Unpolluted, unpopulated. There are sit-outs, grassy stretches, unending vistas of the water, and even an eating joint right in the middle of the lake! But the memory of my trip here has turned a little bitter because of the fact that I dropped my camera here.

Sameer, there are a good number of tourist spots around Udaipur. You can go to Mt. Abu (a 1 day-1night trip), Kumbhalgarh (around 100 km away), Ranakpur (takes an hour and half to reach), and Haldighati (yes the famous Rana Pratap & Chetak Haldighati).

What are the other tourist attractions close to Udaipur? I hear people often make day trips to Kumbhalgarh Fort or Ramgarh? Can they be clubbed with Udaipur?

City Palace truly is the most impressive thing at Udaipur, of course, after the lakes. And Jag Niwas serves excellent food. Sitting in its rooftop restaurant overlooking the lake, gazing at the sparkling waters, with dim lights, and comfortable cushiony seating, we just didn’t want to get up!

Hey I have been to Udaipur, but didn’t hear of Doodh Talai! I missed it! L Wish I had read this earlier.
