Under the protective shadow of the Karakoram range, and crisscrossed by Nubra and Shyok rivers, Nubra Valley forms the north extreme of Ladakh. Although most of the landscape on the way is barren and moon-like, as soon as you enter Nubra, spurts of colour appear in the unlikeliest of places: green fields of barley near the river, red, yellow and purple flowers in the valley, and the famous white sand dunes around village Diskit.
