Rameshwaram is a town located on Pamban Island, part of Tamil Nadu, separated from the mainland of India by the Pamban Channel. It is considered to be one of the holiest places in India and forms a part of the Char Dham Pilgrimage Tour. It is believed to be the very place from where Lord Ram built a bridge, supposedly from rocks floating on the water, across the sea of Lanka to rescue his wife Sita. Rameshwaram Temple was built to commemorate this legend. The Ramanathaswamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is closely linked to Lord Rama, forming the main temple.
