Sneakily surfing through blogs and to-do lists at work, copying links onto draft emails and checking prices on travel portals every hour, the symptoms are usually the same when the travel itch gets you. And who doesn’t love a whole lot of pre-vacation excitement?

Post –vacation, the scene is almost exactly the opposite, excitement is replaced by stillness and the mundane. With a Herculean will power, you drag yourself back into the daily humdrum and eventually, routine is back. Here are a few things you could do to reduce the post vacation lull and to continue savouring the holiday moments.

1. Move mountains – of baggage we mean!!!!

Hide the evidence and stack away the vacation clothes. Unpacking faster than packing is the quickest way to come out of the sombre mood that sets in when you are back from a holiday. The sight of piled luggage in your living room or bedroom is only going to make you feel more miserable post-holiday. Do your laundry, stash away the little shampoo bottles you nicked and try out everything you bought from your holiday.

Nothing is going to please you more than the sight of unpacked empty luggage. Make place for that new curio you purchased and give yourself a pat on your back for having a good eye for the finer things of life.

2. Enjoy the rewards: See what you have splurged on

Make place for that new curio you purchased and give yourself a pat on your back for having a good eye for the finer things in life. If you have come back from an international holiday, you must have treated yourself to a bottle of two of alcoholic goodness. Indulging in a tipple would be highly recommended for curing the vacation hangover.

3. Become a social media celebrity and bask in your 15 minutes of fame

This is one activity we all undertake with due diligence. It’s an art in itself to choose images which will drive more likes and comments. The ones that make you look fit, more gorgeous and more picture perfect. The attention that follows is an amazing way of feeling good about the holiday you have just had. So even if you don’t feel as ecstatic as you did prior to your break, the flutter of social media attention is sure to get you going.

4. Get back to work as soon you can

Sometimes weprefer to take a break for a day or two before getting back to work. This actually does more harm than good to those of us who suffer from post-holiday blues. Getting back to your day job might not only make you feel all pepped up, it will also add a new vigour to your work. You will find yourself more refreshed and rearing to go. Again, you can be the master storyteller and enchant your colleagues with your travel tales.

5. Document the holiday nostalgia

You are now pretty much set in your routine and you first weekend post vacation arrives. This is a great time to indulge in post-holiday activities such a writing a blog about your travels, cooking a dish you tried from that destination, revamping your family photo gallery. Your memories are fresh and it’s the best time to pen down details even if you write in your own personal diary. The flavours of the food you might have tasted would be tingling on your tongue and you could indulge in a spot of cooking to revive the gorgeous time you spent on your holiday. If indulging in any sort of activity seems like a task in itself, you can always simply cosy up and relax with some soul-food and movies.

6. And as the saying goes – diamond cuts diamond

Nothing beats vacation blues better than planning another holiday, even if it’s a small day trip or an activity weekend. And given that most of us can’t afford to pay up for another holiday immediately, we are going to apply the trick of “Fake it till you make it”.

Visit a friend or cousin in the neighbouring town. If you can convince your friend or significant other to accompany you, it could become like an outing in itself. Schedule a spa session or indulge in a spot of activity at the local club. Organise a movie marathon at a friend’s place or make it into a movie and dinner date with your partner. The options are unlimited and the idea is to convince your mind with a holiday like feeling.
