Fun and Frolic in Phuket

The island capital city of Thailand – Phuket, is one place for full on fun and frolicking! December to March is the most comfortable time to visit Phuket, when the average temperature is around 24C to 32C and there is little rainfall.  With less humidity and cool breeze blowing all the time, it’s the best time to be in Phuket.

From the magnificent to the apparently irreverent, the variety of activities and places to visit is astonishing for a single destination.

Must see with the must do’s are listed below:

1)      Phang Nga Bay: the dramatic limestone islands in this region will be etched in your mind forever.  Some famous islands include: James Bond Island and Koh Panyee.

Do: Sea Canoeing as many caverns are only reachable by canoe.

2)     Old Phuket Town: take a stroll and explore the area in the morning or afternoon when it’s not hot. Visit the historically affluent town and observe the extravagant Sino-colonial buildings.

Do: shop in the Phuket Town Night Market and get good deals.

3)      Wat Chalong Temple: the largest and the most significant temple in Phuket.  It’s very beautifully designed and the Grand Pagoda is said to have a fragment of Lord Buddha’s bone.

Do: drive up to the Big Buddha and get a lovely aerial view of Phuket.

4)     Phuket Viewpoints: There are many viewpoints in Phuket that give you a spectacular view of the sunrise and sunset. Laem Phromthep is the most famous and offers splendid views. Other viewpoints such as the ‘Three Beaches’ hilltop venue are also good.

5)     Thai Boxing at Patong: is a combat sport from Thailand which is high on energy and thrilling to watch. Known as ‘the art of eight limbs’ because participants use their fists, elbows, knees and feet in this full-contact sport.

Do: watch a Thai Boxing match either Soi Sai Namyen (Monday and Thursday) or at Bangla Boxing Stadium (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday).

Phuket’s status as a partying hub is well deserved as it attracts revelers from around the world. It has something for everyone. Patong is the undoubted centre of nightlife in Phuket. Nine o’clock onwards the town starts partying and doesn’t stop until early morning. The leading clubs in Patong are Beach Road’s Banana, Seduction, Famous and The Factory.

1)      Bangla Road: this is where the heart of the action is. Here you will find the biggest clubs, the craziest bars and the most entertaining shows with its ladyboys, exotic girls and charmed tourists. Strolling down Bangla Round at midnight, will make you feel as if you are on the sets of some fantasy film.

2)     Simon Cabaret Show: Guys won’t be able to tell the difference, and girls would die to look that beautiful! Fantastic costumes, gorgeous makeup and popular music all rolled into the biggest transvestite cabaret show - Simon Cabaret. Performed by the well-known ladyboys of Patong.

3)     Gay Phuket: While going towardsRoyal Paradise Phuket you will encounter a lot of gay bars, restaurants, and massage parlors. The main gay bars are The Boat Bar, Kar, Flying Handbag and Dempsey’s has an A-Go-Go show.

4)     Phuket FantaSea: The Disneyland of Phuket has one of the largest buffets in Asia. The highlight of this theme park is a theatrical show in which myths and legends of Thailand have been woven into an interesting plotline, and made entertaining and spellbinding by the use of trapeze artists, elephants and pyrotechnics.

Swimming, snorkeling, diving, yachting, jet-skiing, parasailing, freediving, windsurfing, kite surfing, wakeboarding and deep sea fishing are very popular in Phuket.

Phuket is also home to some of the weirdest shops you will ever encounter in a market, from Second hand shoe shops to tailors who claim to stitch up suits in 24 hours flat. You better be on your guard while shopping here. Known for its nielloware, pewterware, cultured pearls, ornaments and dried seafood, you will surely find something to take home as a fond reminder of this fun-filled trip to Phuket.

Thai food is well known for its fantastic flavors and fresh ingredients; Phuket is renowned for sea food especially. If you want to get away from the hustle bustle of the city and have a quite lunch/dinner in a wonderful location you got to try one of the Floating Restaurants! While eating out in Phuket you could try some remarkable local dishes like: Pad Thai, Beef Stew, Pork Stew, Rice Noodle (Kanom Chine), Pork Noodle, Dim Sum ‘Janjira’, Boiled Rice, Hai Son, Mango sticky rice ‘Rim Tang’, Chicken Rice “Kota”, Som Tum (Papaya Salad).
